Is It Right to Give Your Children Fish Oil Supplements

Have you ever wondered whether fish oil and supplements are safe for your children? Here are some important reasons that help us parents understand the role of omega-3 in making our adorable kids fit and healthy.

Improvements in Brain Development

We are all aware that fish oil is essential for our children's overall development. This product is known to bring about significant improvements in the development of our children's brain. According to expert recommendations, omega-3 is considered as a prime nutrient necessary for the total development of the brain during childhood. This process begins when you are pregnant and your rapidly growing fetus depends on you for DHA omega-3 nourishment. Bringing about positive changes in focus, attention-span, cognitive performances and memory, DHA omega-3 is vital for your child's health too.

Behavioural Management

It has been reported that a higher percentage of omega-3 fatty acids in a child's diet can go a long way in sorting out any behavioural issues. Conditions such as ADHD, anxiety and depression are often caused due to a deficiency of omega-3 fatty acids. Regular intake of fish oil and other supplements that contain this vital nutrient can help reduce any concerns associated with the onset of these problems.

A Safer alternative to Feeding Fish

As well as feeding fresh fish to your kids, there is the option of giving them supplements which contains the recommended daily allowance.  This is guaranteed to boost your kid’s body and mind.  This means that the benefits achieved from taking fish oil can be seen in your children.  This is reassuring for any parent.

In Our Fast Lives, How Can We Be Sure We are Getting Everything We Need?

How the society is at the moment, everything we do seems to be done against the clock!  Our world is moving at a fast pace and there is no way of slowing it down but we have to make sure that our bodies are getting everything that we need!

For me and my children, the weeks come and go and there seems to be no time for relaxing and chilling, whether it being the football and volleyball training numerous times a week, along with the weekly matches at the weekends, there is the constant battle of homework and household chores and that is just the children.  Obviously I have my own employment and housework to contend with.

One of the things that I dread every day, is what to have for dinner, what to give the children in their lunches....as there is always the element of healthy eating.  As a family we are extremely sporty so I have to think of all the "extra" energy that is needed.  I like to prepare and give them snacks that are slow release carbohydrates, this way it keeps them feeling full and not finding the urge to "pick" between meals.

Meals - breakfast, this is an important meal as this sets them up for the day ahead.  Making breakfasts appealing can be hard, when you are rushing and possibly tired, so changing and offering a variety is the key here.  One day scrambled or boiled eggs, next day porridge or cereals, next day toast etc, this way there is never the boredom factor of the same foods being consumed and at the same time giving the body a variety of necessary nutrients that are needed. This theory should be put into action across all meals.  Our bodies are machines.

Fluid consumption is also important.  Water is the most important thing that should be consumed as our bodies are made up between 50-65%, so replacing and maintaining those levels are vital.

There is something that can be done to ensure that all levels are given that extra boost and that being supplements.  Supplements can be taken for so many things and help the bodies run as smooth as possible.  All members of the family can take supplements. This is something that eases my mind knowing we are all getting that extra something!
